NEIL DOUGLAS REILLY is a postulant for priesthood in The Episcopal Diocese of New York, studying for his Master of Divinity at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. He is a founding member of the Society of the Siblings at Bethany.
Neil works in External Affairs at Trinity Church, driving systemic change at the city and state level in alignment with Trinity’s policy priorities. Before joining Trinity, Neil worked in state government, most recently as Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office of Motion Picture and Television Development, where he led the expansion and implementation of the NYC Musical & Theatrical Tax Credit.
Neil also served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin and as a communications and policy staffer in the State Senate where he helped craft and pass major criminal justice and housing legislation. Legislation Neil helped to negotiate reduced the parole population by 40% one year after its passage, allowing 13,000 New Yorkers better access to housing, employment, education and their families.

Before entering public service, Neil worked as a musician in theater, film and television. He managed music teams and provided orchestrations for productions on and off Broadway and for writing teams including Ahrens & Flaherty, Kander & Ebb and Boublil & Schönberg on shows including Little Dancer (Kennedy Center), Rocky (Broadway), Clinton (New World Stages), Stars of David (DR2), Luck Be A Lady (Asolo Rep), Kander and Ebb’s Sing Happy (PBS), the Tony Awards (CBS), and an international tour of the music of Boublil and Schönberg, Do You Hear the People Sing?
Neil is an active member of the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine where he leads the Young Adult ministry. He is also a member of the Episcopal Diocese of New York’s Young Adult Network Steering Committee and has been a Co-Chair of the Advocacy and Action Committee. He is a graduate of the City College of New York, and lives in Inwood with his partner Taylor, the co-owner of two queer bars.
